From the 1st up to and including the 4th of November, when you ask someone at the bar, you can play Ubisoft's latest game 'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey' both in Antwerp and Ghent on our mighty rigs for free for an hour.
Ah Greece: land of olives, feta cheese, and Ouzo. Where philosophers imagined the world as the inside of a cave, Spartans kicked people down wells, and the Greek Gods were everyone's favourite soap series.
Seriously, 'Keeping up with the Pantheon' was a REALLY popular weekly theatre play in ancient Athens!
It stands to reason then that a game set during this mythical age would be an absolute hit.
Oh no, wait, we're not talking about that game! No, no, no we're referencing Ubisoft's latest hit: Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
AC: Odyssey is a beautiful game that takes the lessons learned from 'Origins', along with some other RPG-like mechanics, and pushes forward. Most of these new features are fantastic.
Combat, for example, is great. It comes with a robust tech tree that allows you to customise the protagonist's skills to your preferred playstyle. Your enemies aren't cannon fodder either and are often equipped with shields that require either heavy weapons or a specific skill to break through.
Exploration mode is another win. You can turn off all waypoints and use people's directions, along with the map, to get around and find things. It's usually not too hard and can be turned off at any time.
By the way Greece itself looks amazing. The landmass you can explore is about 130km² in size which is almost twice as large as Origins' 80km² map. Fortunately you have a customizable ship this time. If you have dreams of being a gay warrior princess commanding a crew of amazon warrior women ... you can totally do that! Because for the very first time you get to choose your own gender/protagonist in the form of Alexios and Kassandra.
Sadly, even though you now have dialogue options and optional romances to choose from, don't expect 'Mass Effect'-like depth. It's still a bit in its early stages, but perhaps we'll see an improvement in Assassin's Creed: Roma Victrix*?
