The Outpost Player's Club for Magic will be back!

Starting July 11th, you will earn a set amount of our new currency 'Outpost Points' [OPs] for every Magic tournament you join, which you can exchange for prizes (boosters or tournament coupons) at the end of a season.

Your performance in these tournaments will also allow you to improve your rank on the seasonal leaderboards, which can reward you even more Outpost Points.

- Seasons: A period of several months closely tied to the release of Magic Expansions. All single player tournaments you play in an Outpost during a season help you improve your ranking for that Outpost store.

- Outpost Points [OPs]: Our new Outpost currency, which can be gained in two ways: either by joining Tournaments or achieving a certain rank. After a season has ended you can trade OPs for boosters or tournament coupons.

- Rank: Perform well in tournaments to improve your position on the leaderboards. We have a seperate board for each gamecenter as well as seperate prize pools that grow as the season progresses and more people play.

- DCI number and OP-account link: In order to exchange your Outpost Points for rewards, you must link your DCI number to your website account. This will also allow you to track your points and specify which rewards you wish to receive.

Each of these will be further explained below.

Seasons

Rewards are now handed out at the end of a Season. A Season starts on the Monday before the prerelease of a Magic set and ends on the Sunday before the prerelease of the next Magic set. So a season will always bridge the period between Magic Sets. Each Season will be named after the then running expansion. For example our first Season called "Eldritch Moon" will commence on:

Monday, July 11
and end on
Sunday, September 18.

After this the "Kaladesh" Season will begin and so on. The date and duration of each Season will be announced by us well in advance.

Outpost Points [OPs]

Outpost Points, or OPs for short, are our new currency. Instead of awarding prizes directly, you are now assigned a number of Outpost Points. With these you can then proceed to 'buy' the rewards you want. There are several ways of earning OPs:

- By participating in tournaments (including drafts, sealed deck, constructed deck, commander, multiplayer). You can find an example below.

- By earning a Rank on the leaderboards. You will then gain a dynamic number of OPs based on how high up the ladder you are. This will be explained further on.

Here are some of the base OPs you get when you participate in a tournament. Just to give you an idea of the value of our new currency.

- Normal constructed: 20 pt
- Normal draft: 40 pt
- Sealed deck: 83 pt

(You can find out how much OPs you need for a given reward further down in this article under 'Type of Rewards'.)

Rank and Ranking Points

Your place on the leaderboards, aka your rank, is determined by a formula which uses a value called 'Ranking Points'. Your ranking points for each tournament are calculated by the following formula:

Ranking Points = [Your Swiss Points] + [1 Participation point] + [3 points for winning a playoff match]

Your total Ranking Points are simply the sum of the Ranking Points of your best 10 tournaments.

For example: Say that you have already played 10 times, and earned 150 Ranking Points. In your worst of these 10 tournaments, you earned only 3 points. You now play at an 11th event in which you do very well and you gain 15 Ranking points for it. This means that your 3 point-tournament is discarded, and your 15 point tournament now counts, so you now have 162 (150 + 15 – 3) Ranking points. Alternatively, if you scored only 1 point at this new tournament, you would still maintain your 150 Ranking Points.

This has several benefits: it means your Ranking Points can only go up – you cannot lose anything by playing more – and 'grinding' is mostly eliminated.

You can earn Ranking Points for every form of Mtg tournament EXCEPT multiplayer and commander.

Rank and Outpost Points

Once your position on our leaderboards has been determined you will gain a number of Outpost Points based on your rank, and the total Outpost Points in the prize pool. Obviously whoever's 1st place will get most, then 2nd, 3rd place and so on.

The exact amount of Outpost Points that is distributed throughout the ranks is dynamic and determined by how many Outpost Points were earned that season. So the more people come to Outpost and play, the more everyone will earn.

Although Rank will be reset every season you will never lose any gained Outpost Points. Should you choose not to use them right now, but exchange them at a later date you can do so without consequence.

Furthermore rank is specific to each Outpost. This means that there are three leaderboards, one for every gamecenter. You are free to participate in one or all three of these rankings and will earn OPs for each and every one seperately. So participation in multiple Outposts will earn you more rewards.

Lastly all rewards gained using this system are additional to the regular prize pools of a tournament.

Type of Rewards

Sometime after the Season ends you can exchange your collected Outpost Points for physical rewards. These can be one of three things.

- Booster of the current set : 200 OPs.
- Constructed coupon : 300 OPs.
- Draft coupon : 600 OPs.

DCI number and Outpost-Account Link

In order to participate in this new system please link your DCI number with your Outpost Website User Account and select which of the three rewards you want to receive. Although not linking your account will NOT prevent you from earning OPs or Ranking Points it WILL prevent you from claiming any associated rewards until you link your DCI number.

To link your DCI number with your website account, visit one of our game centers. Once our staff has made the connection for you, you will be able (and required) to log on to the website, so you can choose which prizes you would like to receive.

Once that is done you can find relevant information (such as amount of OP's, etc) on your OPC Profile here.

That is everything on our new systems of Reward and Ranking. We wish you good luck when the first Season, "Eldritch Moon", begins on July 11th!
