Preorder Hour of Devastation

The hour of Devastation approaches; soon the God-Pharaoh Nicol Bolas will return and everyone will be doomed! Fortunately they'll make a great card set out of it which you can preorder now before its release on July 14th.

 

As it was foretold: when the hour of devastation arrives so will the God-Pharaoh Nicol Bolas. With his return he promised eternal life, which was true in a sense .... as part of his eternal zombie army!

 

Since everyone is basically dead or dying 'Hour of Devastation' introduces a brand new mechanic called 'Eternalize', which is an upgraded version of 'Embalm'. Eternalize transforms a card into a zombie Eternal that's part of Bolas' army. It works by exiling a card from the graveyard (which has this mechanic) and bringing it back as a token, monoblack, zombie with 4/4 power/toughness. Usually this is an improvement of the card as the increased power synergizes well with its existing abilities (which you can still use).

 

Another new mechanic signifying the power of the God-Pharaoh is called 'Afflict'. Whenever a creature with this abilty is blocked the defending player loses life equal to the Afflict value.

 

Mechanics such as 'Exert', 'Cycling' and 'Aftermath' are carried over from Amonkhet and will make an appearance in this set.
